Breaking news, from next door!

Saturday, July 3, 1999: It's hot! Drew [8 years old] and Mum go shopping. Caitlin [10 years old] goes to play at the Miners’. Sarah [6 years old] is looking after the boys, beautifully. We try out some new computer games, or programs. Orly’s Draw-a-Story goes over the biggest.

Later we eat some leftovers and then make our way outside, where it's actually cooler. Spencer [three years old] goes up to the Cotters' big tree, in their front yard. He climbs up a little, to look around. Then, suddenly, he’s got his trousers down. We hustle over to investigate. “The tiger had to go poop!” he says. Well I guess he would, at that. And sure enough, some four feet below, we find a nice, large mineral deposit.

Here she comes; there she is

The girl who received an academic recognition and then made these faces

A little sequence of photos from the Salt Lake City airport, 23 May, 2017

Three good, sweet, faithful and hardworking kids, back from France, rushing into the arms of the families that love them, and whom they love. What beautiful faces! The world is a good place!!

Oh, by the way ... (This Flight Tonight)

Why all this late evening blog posting? Well, mostly to keep occupied, while this other very large thing hovers happily over us. Here's what I mean:

In other words, it being 10:57 Mountain Time, Spencer's flight back home took off about five minutes ago!

Here's what follows.

17 hours or so for us. For him, 24 or 5! Maybe we'll try to get some sleep here. Maybe not though ...

Nincompoops

Here's these dummies, who have been doing this kind of thing for about the last 15 or 16 or 17 years.

Lucy, standing at the portals of the Doors of Perception

Hey!

We should state that the previously profiled married-and-graduated Sarah Duncan Winegar just tried out for and made the Real Salt Lake women's soccer team! What's that, Wikipedia?

“Real Salt Lake Women is an American women's soccer team, founded in 2008. The team is a member of United Women's Soccer league, in the second tier of women's soccer in the United States and Canada. The team plays in the Western Division.” (Of the Women's Premiere Soccer League, that is.)

Ah. RLSW play at various venues, it turns out. This 20 May 2017 game was at Utah Valley University's nice soccer facility. Strangely, Utah Valley University student Eric Winegar was in attendance.

Don't know this guy, but he balanced the picture

The team gathers current and recent college players, from various programs. There's a Ute or two, for instance. It's a short season, but Sarah's going to get to play in La Crescenta CA, and in Calgary!

Sarah is defending, as usual. Claire got some action photos, and then concluded with the famous Moomintroll shot.

Bums. Fun!

Drew and Jerusha H., tearin' it up at BYU Theatre and Media Arts' annual writers' retreat

Drew, as you'll recall, actually lives up in Salt Lake City with these here Jared and Jerusha Hesses, plus their various children and small animals. The three of J & J & D wrote a coupla feature scripts together last summer. Both have been optioned, and by film production entities that you have definitely heard of. Mind, actual production is a whole 'nother complicated and alchemical and mysterious thing. Still, finished, and cheques!

In addition to that, D. and Jer. have been collaborating on another script for the last quite a while. It sets out to reveal some shocking information about the true identity of Santa Claus. It also contains many surpassing silly things.

First thing:

They put her up, and poshly!

Those BYU filmsters wanted these somewhat hard-working and occasionally productive ladies to do a session for the conference attendees. Their session was actually three 45 minutes modules, for three separate groups of kids. Just like they were real, working public school teachers! This is what all that looked like:

Jerusha and Drew talked about logistics, routine, wheres and whens. They read excerpts. They showed several inappropriate film clips.

Also, they imparted many pearls of profound wisdom, as well as cracking each other up, and their communicants too. It's fun to be having fun ...

Chums

Later, Jerusha waxed annoyed about the continued and unrelenting presence of certain elderly faculty members. Like these guys:

President and Treasurer of the DD fan club. There's DD, tolerating ...

Meanwhile, outside, geology doesn't much care about film careers. Beautiful setting though; cool for Drew!

"Evil has been defeated," said Matt Duncan

After having practically busted the bumper on Richie Maughan's jeep, that infernally deep-rooted Boxwood bush gets the Genesis 3: 17-19 treatment from Matt and Mum.

Today, the spoils go to these particularly doughty victors. The effects of the Fall continue tomorrow ...

Tick-tock (counting down)

One more Mother's Day call from Spencer:

Mum had just got a new dress. "Hey, can I wear that?" asked Claire

And, in the end ...

A last mission post from the superb Spencer Duncan, a week prior to his honourable release as a full time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and to his happy homecoming:

Mountains to Climb

Today, for my last p-day, we hiked a mountain. It was hard, but fun too. And I thought of a good analogy. Life is like a mountain. But after you get to one peak, there's another to climb. The last little bit of the hike I decided to really push it. Kind of like this last week needs to be. Step by step, hill by hill I've almost made it to the peak of my mission mountain. Then I'll be able to move on to the next mountain.

Thanks to everyone for all of your support and love! I'm so grateful for the experiences we've been able to share together. The gospel's true. Christ is our guide because He's hiked every mountain.

See you in a week!

Love,

Elder Spencer Duncan
