Spence and Dad drove up to Alberta for Canada Day, etc. (part 1)

On Monday, June 26 we left home in Springville, UT, and headed northward.

Look, Idaho!

We ate lunch in Idaho Falls, in a place that had many photographs of eagles, military personnel, stars, stripes, and nuclear explosions.

Some people are easily entertained ...

The Big Sky thing is true.

Montana is pretty.

We walked around down here on this handsome evening and talked about architecture, and being an architect. Spencer also claimed that he was experiencing allergical distress, and kept making squeaking noises with his eyeball.

We went around the corner and ate at Applebees, where I believe the waitress called Spencer Blondie.”

We stayed at the Holiday Inn. This was the view out the window:

On Tuesday, June 27 we turned north again, in brisk air and good looking skies.

Underway!

Getting excited, and modern technologies helping us to communicate the fact ...

Over we went! The Big Sky thing is true in Alberta, too. (Claire had demonstrated this, previously; see http://bit.ly/2uaFynt.)

Up to Edmonton! We talked about missions a lot. French ones, specifically. A highlight!

We drove on through beautiful dramatic weather, all the way to the grandfolks' place in Sherwood Park.

Our lodgings:

This is important, and a profound, much-missed typicality. Here is what 10:15-30 PM looks like, up in Edmonton.

And this is 4:30-45 AM.

Anyway, on Wednesday, June 28 we went on a heritage hike. Origins, both individually and nuclearly. (Previously documented here: http://bit.ly/2uJqfzc, and in surrounding blog posts.)

We started in Strathcona, then went to Riverbend. Where the noted musical ensemble Brad and the Neaties made their inaugural appearance here:

Down the street and around the corner, our old house don't look like our old house no more!

That afternoon we sat around reading for a couple of hours. Dream holiday! Dream companion too. Dinner, then back to Riverbend to go through a session at the (LDS) temple.

Faithful, long serving grandparents in view ...

This lighting's not so good, is it? Oh well—poor photo, by dad, of really great companion.

Once done at the temple we were off to visit Uncle Scott, cousins Rebecca and Bonnie. Not for the first, or only time ...
